What is Tajweed? Posted by online Quran teacher

1. Introduction

Online Quran teacher is the best person to learn Quran with tajweed. Ibn Masoud - May Allah be pleased with Him - reported: "The Messenger of Allah - may Allah pray over Him and greet Him - said to me:

Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets ten times [greater] reward. I am not saying that Alif - Lam - Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter. “(At-Tirmidhi)

2. Definition of Tajwid

The Tajweed -    is an Arabic word which comes from the root word ja-wa-da meaning linguistically the fact to improve and make it better.

Technically, Tajweed corresponds to the correct recitation of the Holy Quran by giving each letter its due, by employing the correct pronunciation, through the movement of vowels ( harakat ), the points of articulation of the letters (makharij ) and the way in which these letters are articulated according to their intrinsic characteristics ( sifat ).

The word Tartil - is also used in the Arabic language to designate the reading of the Holy Quran. It means in Arabic "slow, whose rhythm is measured". It is mentioned in the Holy Quran, sura al Mouzammil , verse 4:

 Translation

 Verse

“Or a little more. And recite the Quran, slowly and clearly. "

According to Ibn Kathir - may Allah have mercy on him - the meaning of the term Tafsir in this verse is “to make the letters clear “.

The Tajwid courses present in this site are based on reading Hafs 'An' Aasim through Shatibiyyah - We will explain later in another lesson of the Koran insha Allah, the different existing readings of the Holy Koran.

3. Why were the Tajwid rules written?

When Islam spread to Arab and non-Arab lands, many people were not used to pronouncing Arabic letters and sounds. Also, the Koran was recited with many errors and distortions appeared which frightened the scholars who feared their perpetuation. Thus, as a precaution, they began to write the rules and foundations that still allow the correct pronunciation of the Koran today, and called them “science of Tajwid “.

These rules were established from the observation of readers of the Qur'an who followed the rules taught by the Prophet - may Allah pray over Him and greet Him - whom He taught and then which were passed on to subsequent generations.

The most important part of Tajweed is apquranndre the correct positions of the vocal organs and how to articulate sounds. Indeed, one can lose the meaning of the Quran if the letters are not pronounced correctly.

The incorrect pronunciation of a letter of the Quran can have the consequence of changing the meaning of a word and sometimes even the reverse. For example, in the Arabic language the word dog is pronounced and the word heart. The four letters are similar in their pronunciation and if they are not pronounced correctly, the meaning of the word changes completely.

4. Why learn Tajweed?

The science of Tajweed is not a rote memorization system. On the contrary, the mastery of these rules is achieved by reading the Holy Quran. Knowing how to recite it and knowing how to read it are two distinct aspects.

When Tajweed is carefully observed, the reading is eloquent and follows a smooth rhythm. The reader will be all the more sure if he follows the model of the Prophet - may Allah pray over Him and greet Him - in the recitation of the Koran just as the Prophet - may Allah pray over Him and greet Him - did according to what He was revealed to him  Insha Allah .

Failure to follow these rules may result in unacceptable reading. Changing the meaning of words can make the reader unintentionally guilty of words of disbelief (kufr). This reading of the Quran considered incorrect constitutes a fault, which can deprive the reader of a reward in the Hereafter, and Allah the Most High is the most learned.
